Few There Be That Find It

"Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:14)

This is a great chapter in Matthew. It is one chapter that had a profound effect on me. It's when I first began to realize when I was not a Christian and when finally truthful with myself I realized I was not on a narrow way but on a broad way.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it." (Matthew 7:14)

There is a passage like this one in Luke that had the same effect.

"Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out." (Luke 13:24-28)

Let me say this in the day of judgment there will be many people who thought they were Christians only to realize that Christ never knew them.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" (Matthew 7:21-22)

How lightly do you take Christ? Do you even fear what God can do to you?

"But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!" (Luke 12:5)

Christ is the narrow way, few will follow Him. But if you do He will take you down the way to everlasting life.
